Many people who follow #ThroughThePain think we are just focused on the issue of sickle cell disease, This is far from the truth. #ThroughThePain is around to support individuals with experiencing chronic pain. Whether you suffer from cancer, fibromyalgia, or rheumatoid arthritis, those who suffer from pain associated with chronic illness need support.
I personally utilize Facebook groups like Sickle Cell Unite and Sickle Cell Anemia Support Group. However, nothing is better than participating in a local community support group. Every first Thursday of the month, I attend the Boston Medical Center Sickle Cell Support Group. The support group was established in June of 2018 by Cheks Nwabueze. Each month we address issues from self-care to avoiding isolation. I find that sharing my experience with like-minded individuals to be cathartic.
If you struggle with chronic pain and illness, it is imperative that you find a support group. If you cannot find a support group in your area, I recommend joining the #ThroughThePain Facebook group.
